Coal Mill Safety

Many processes utilise coal pulverisation to generate a coal-based fuel that can burn almost as easily and efficiently as a gas. The raw coal is fed into the pulveriser along with heated air. As the coal is crushed, hot air dries it and blows the usable fine coal powder out, which is then transported to a coal bunker for storage or directly for use in blast furnace or combustion processes. The exhaust air is then purified by a bag filter. A mix of fine coal powder and hot carrying air generates carbon monoxide(CO). For safety purposes there is a requirement for continuous monitoring of oxygen (O2) and trace carbon monoxide(CO) in each process of coal pulverization, transfer and storage.
