Chocolate, Wine and Elemental Analysis
QUANTITECH'S Dr Gareth Pearson says these are three of his favourite subjects; so imagine his delight when he booked an exhibition stand at the Association of Public Analysts Annual Conference for which the analysis of chocolate and wine are amongst the main themes!
The Conference will take place in the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne, 30-31 October 2008.
Quantitech has recently launched two new product ranges from Teledyne Leeman Labs; The Prodigy ICP Spectrometer and the Hydra C mercury analyser.
The Prodigy is a powerful and versatile ICP with fully simultaneous large format programmable array detector (L-PAD) with continuous wavelength coverage (165 – 1100 nm), selectable resolution and drift free analysis. Featuring a high dispersion spectrometer and long focal length (800 mm) optics, it provides excellent resolution (0.008 nm at 200 nm) and low detection limits.
An example of the applications for which the Prodigy is designed is the analysis of wine to confirm its provenance and to check for impurities.
A Hydra C Direct Mercury Analyser employs Thermal Decomposition and Atomic Absorption and Dr Pearson will demonstrate the new instrument at the Quantitech stand. No sample preparation is required for either solids and liquids analysis and results can be obtained in under 5 minutes.
Dr Pearson anticipates a high level of interest in the Hydra C because of recent food scares relating to Mercury – particularly in tuna.
