Solvent Abatement Validation
Solvents can be described as being volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that vapourise easily room temperature. Benzene, acetone, and alcohols are examples of compounds that be described as solvents. These chemicals can have many wide ranging detrimental effects including promoting respiratory illness and enhancing atmospheric photochemical smog. Legislation has been put in place to mitigate the emission of solvent to air. The Solvent Emissions Regulations (2004)
and the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Act (IPPC) both seek to impose limits on emission and promote the use of abatement systems. Monitoring these abatement systems accurately is of paramount importance.
