Portable VOC Emission Monitoring

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can be broadly described as being
any organic chemical compound that vapourises under normal atmospheric
conditions. Exact definitions vary between countries but VOCs are
generally carbon based molecules. VOCs have wide ranging detrimental
health and atmospheric effects therefore emissions to air and workplace concentrations require measurement. The European standard EN12619 describes the use of a Flame Ionisation Detection (FID) method of determining gaseous organic
compounds in flue gases. FIDs can be either portable or installed
instruments and should be validated for conformity to performance
standards under the MCERTS scheme.
