CEMS Backup

Operators of installations falling under the Waste Incineration Directive (WID, 2000/76/EC)  must provide alternative monitoring if the CEMS is not available for periods greater than four hours.
Process operators may need the assurance provided by a second CEMS even if not required by regulation. A hot standby system, identical to the running CEMS can be configured to come online in the event of a failure.

A less expensive alternative is to use a transportable system, based upon an FTIR analyser or combination of analysers to provide the full, certified functionality to support several CEMS.

An EA document RM-QG-4 provides the appropriate guidance.
